With the right chestnut roaster, you can also make hot chestnuts at home.
For many people, a visit to the Christmas market is only complete when they eat hot chestnuts. Marron stands in city centers are also very popular. Would you like to enjoy these sweet chestnuts at home anytime? Then consider getting a Marroni oven. The device is practical and easy to use.
In the A. & J. Stöckli AG range, you will find various models of Marroni ovens. While these appliances are designed specifically for roasting chestnuts, they are also suitable for preparing other dishes such as baked potatoes or crêpes. Below, you can learn all about our Marroni ovens and interesting facts about chestnuts and their preparation.
What are chestnuts, and what makes them special?
Chestnuts are a type of sweet chestnut. They grow in many European countries, including Switzerland. In Switzerland, they are mainly found in Ticino, Valais, and around some lakes in the western and central regions. They thrive particularly well in these areas due to the mild climate.
Chestnuts usually appear in stores in September and are available until March. Those living in areas where chestnut trees grow can also harvest the nuts themselves during this period.
Chestnuts are not only delicious but also contain several valuable nutrients. They are rich in sucrose and starch, and also provide potassium and various vitamins. Notably, they contain vitamins A and C, as well as B2 and B3.
Eating chestnuts is therefore beneficial for health. In addition, they are gluten-free, making them suitable for people with celiac disease. Those who are conscious of their diet will also appreciate chestnuts, as they are low in fat and contain only around 210 calories per 100 grams.
Moreover, their high fiber content helps you feel full for longer. Their naturally sweet flavor also satisfies the craving for sweets. Regular consumption of chestnuts contributes to a healthy diet in many ways.
How to roast chestnuts in a Marroni oven

Chestnuts can be perfectly prepared at home using a Marroni oven. To do this, they must first be prepared. Start by using a sharp knife to remove the tips and make a cross-shaped cut into each chestnut down to the flesh. Exercise great caution when handling the knife to avoid injury.
Next, place the chestnuts in a water bath to moisten them. Then, position them in the Marroni oven with the cut side facing up, close the lid, and turn on the device. After about ten minutes, turn the chestnuts so that they roast evenly on all sides. The best way to do this is with a wooden spatula.
The chestnuts are done when their shells have darkened and the cuts have opened wide. The total roasting time is about 15 minutes. Once roasted, the chestnuts should be removed from the oven immediately and peeled. They taste best when enjoyed warm. Alternatively, they can be used in a variety of recipes.
How to best enjoy roasted chestnuts

Chestnuts are a perfect snack for in between meals. They satisfy hunger and keep you full for a long time. They can also be used as an ingredient in various dishes. For example, they can be served as a side with salad. Due to their sweet flavor, they are equally suitable for both savory and sweet dishes.
Roasted chestnuts work well as a filling for rolled roasts, as part of goulash, pasta, or mixed vegetables. They are the base for chestnut soup and can be used in baking cakes. It is even possible to make flour from chestnuts. To do this, chopped chestnuts must first be dried and then ground in a coffee grinder or blender.
What are the advantages of a Marroni oven?
Perhaps the most important advantage of a Marroni oven is that it is designed for its specific use. There is no need for complicated settings; it is immediately ready for roasting chestnuts.
Thanks to its handy size, it can also be placed conveniently on the dining table. This allows family members or guests to watch the chestnuts roast, creating a very cozy atmosphere, enhanced by the warmth of the Marroni oven. Additionally, diners can enjoy the chestnuts while they are still warm.
The Marroni ovens from Stöckli AG are not only suitable for roasting chestnuts. They can also prepare a variety of other dishes. For example, baked potatoes can be cooked in the Marroni pan. If you purchase the grill and crepe plate in our shop, the possibilities are further expanded.
The plate is double-sided. On one side, tortillas and crepes can be made. To ensure the crepes turn out perfectly, a batter spreader is included. On the other side of the plate, grilling is possible, allowing the Marroni oven to prepare delicious sausages or grilled vegetables.
Making crepes in the Marroni oven

To make traditional French crepes in the Marroni oven, we have the perfect batter recipe for you. For twelve crepes, you will need the following ingredients:
- 150 grams of flour
- 3 eggs
- 1 cup of milk
- 1/4 cup of water
- 1/2 teaspoon of salt
- 3 tablespoons of melted and cooled butter

In a bowl, mix the flour and eggs. Then gradually add the water, milk, and salt, followed by the butter. The batter is ready when it has a creamy consistency. If it is too thick, add one teaspoon of cold water at a time until it reaches a pourable consistency. Before making crepes, the batter must rest for one hour.
Next, spread some batter on the smooth side of the grill and crepe plate. The entire surface should be covered, but the batter should not be too thick. After a short time, the crepe is ready, and the next one can be prepared.
The exact thickness of each crepe also depends on the desired filling. For light toppings such as jam, sugar, or grated cheese, the crepes can be baked very thin. If heavier ingredients like minced meat or vegetables are used, they need to be more robust and should therefore be thicker.
Preparing Baked Potatoes in the Marroni Oven

Baked potatoes can also be prepared in the Stöckli AG Marroni ovens. Small potatoes are best suited for this. First, they should be peeled and dried. It is recommended to wrap the potatoes in aluminum foil, although preparation without foil is also possible.
The Marroni oven should be preheated for five to ten minutes before cooking the baked potatoes. Then, place the potatoes on the Marroni pan. Cooking time for the baked potatoes is 20 to 25 minutes.
If you have used aluminum foil, the potatoes will stay warm for a longer time. This allows you to prepare other dishes at a relaxed pace to serve alongside the baked potatoes.

Cleaning the Marroni Oven
Like any other kitchen appliance, the Marroni oven should be thoroughly cleaned after use. This ensures it is ready for the next use. Regular cleaning also extends the life of the device.
Before cleaning the Marroni oven, unplug it and let it cool for about half an hour. Then wipe the oven and any used accessories with a damp cloth. If you have used the grill and crêpe plate, you can remove it and wash it in hot water.
Neither the Marroni oven nor its accessories should be cleaned in the dishwasher. The device should also not be immersed in water. Avoid using aggressive cleaning agents.
Which Marroni Ovens and Accessories Does Stöckli AG Offer?

In the A. & J. Stöckli AG online shop, you will find both Marroni ovens and the matching accessories. The classic oven model is available either with wooden handles or with plastic handles. In both versions, the pan and lid are black enamelled, and the base is powder-coated black.
The Marroni oven from Stöckli AG is, of course, primarily designed for roasting chestnuts. However, it can also be used for grilling or making crêpes. For this, you will need the previously mentioned grill and crêpe plate from our product range, which is simply placed in the Marroni oven.
You can purchase the plate separately in our shop, or you can buy a Marroni oven that already includes it in the delivery. This set is also available with either wooden or plastic handles on the Marroni oven.
Also very practical is the Marroni knife in our range. It is used to make incisions in the chestnuts before roasting. The handle of the knife is made of plastic, and the blade is made of stainless steel, manufactured in Solingen. This city in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia is world-renowned for its high-quality knives and blades.

A. & J. Stöckli AG: Tradition-conscious and Modern
Our family business was founded in 1874 by Alfred Stöckli in Uznach. Initially, he produced ashtrays, kerosene lamps, chafing dishes, and pan lids made of metal. Soon, the company created widely recognized products, such as decorative items known as Stöckli copper.
A milestone in the company's history was the invention and market launch of the world's first portion raclette oven in 1969. This triggered a real boom in Switzerland for Stöckli AG. Later, we developed other innovative products, such as the PizzaGrill, the Dörrgerät dörrex, and the Marroni oven.
Despite our decades-long history, we are a modern company with many ideas for the future. We continuously develop our proven products and production methods. Additionally, we place great emphasis on the sustainable use of resources.
