Fondue pots and fondue pans for every taste

Published on January 12, 2024 from

When thinking of specialties from Switzerland, delicious treats like chocolate and cheese fondue immediately come to mind. Cheese fondue is considered a Swiss national dish and makes long winter evenings cozy and sociable. Fondue pots and pans play a crucial role in ensuring a successful fondue.

To make your fondue a culinary highlight, we at Stöckli have put together a wide range of suitable accessories. Learn here which criteria you should consider when choosing a fondue pot or pan.

Which fondue pot is right for me?

The choice of a fondue pot or pan depends on several factors. What type of fondue would you like to prepare? Should it be a pot for classic cheese fondue, or do you want to heat broth, oil, or chocolate? The number of guests and personal preferences also play a decisive role.

If you expect many guests, the fondue pot should have a suitable capacity. For example, the Titlis BIG cheese fondue set is suitable for up to six people.

Fondue pans and pots for classic cheese fondue

Especially during the cool autumn and winter months, many households rely on a fondue pot. Fondue is one of the most sociable meals. Everyone sits together at the table and dips pieces of bread into creamy cheese. For a successful fondue, the pot should maintain a consistent temperature, which is particularly important for cheese fondue.

We will now take a closer look at the different materials used for fondue pans and pots.

What materials can fondue pots and pans be made of?

For classic cheese fondue, a fondue pot made of stoneware or ceramic is particularly suitable. It is often heated with a flame. Therefore, a traditional cheese fondue pot is frequently combined with a burner. At Stöckli, for example, you can find the Bellavista cheese fondue set. This set includes, in addition to the cheese fondue pot (called a Caquelon), a burner with a paste safety burner and six fondue forks.

Each material offers different advantages and can be used for various purposes. Here is a brief overview:

  • The classic fondue pot for cheese fondue is made of ceramic or stoneware. This material has the advantage of distributing heat slowly, so the cheese does not burn.
  • A cast-iron fondue pot is also suitable for preparing cheese fondue. It is important that it has an additional coating. The pot should not be too tall and should have a wide opening. Cast-iron fondue pans are suitable for both cheese fondue and chocolate fondue.
  • Fondue pans and pots made of metal conduct heat very well. However, there is a risk that the cheese or chocolate will burn. For this reason, metal fondue pots are mainly recommended for fondue with broth or oil.

Fondue pots and pans for alternatives to cheese fondue

Over the years, other types of fondue have developed alongside the classic cheese fondue. For example, there is fondue with oil or broth – also known as Fondue Bourguignonne or Fondue Chinoise. In this case, oil or broth is heated, and bite-sized pieces of meat are dipped and cooked. Savory sauces and dips are served alongside.

If you want to serve something sweet, chocolate fondue is a great alternative. Here, fruit or pastries are dipped into melted chocolate. As mentioned earlier, stainless steel pots are very suitable for fondue with broth or oil. The Atlantis fondue set is made of stainless steel and can also be used on an induction stove.

With the Choco-Cheese fondue set, you can create a delicious chocolate or cheese fondue for one person.
